  • Increased availability of and access to unhealthy highly processed foods and beverages

  • Increased viewing and usage of TV and/or computers.

  • Increase in unsafe and unaffordable physical activities.

  • Environmental factors: these factors are a combination of life-style, cultural, emotional (mental health care, self-image, and eating disorders), economic, and geographic factors.

  • Increased reliance on mechanical devices for transportation.

  • Genetics plays a role in approximately 15-22% of obesity cases.

  • Marketplace nutritional and physical activity misinformation and false promises.

  • Parents and children are largely uninformed and in many cases an ill-informed target audience regarding nutrition and physical activity.
