Andrea M. Haqq; M.D., B.S

Dr. Haqq is currently an Associate Professor, University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Pediatric Department, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology. She is a practicing pediatric endocrinologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, University of Alberta. She has a strong clinical and research interest in disorders of energy balance in humans including childhood obesity and its complications (insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes), Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) and other genetic forms of childhood obesity, and hypothalamic-derived obesity. Earlier Dr. Haqq was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. She possesses extensive post-doctorial training in Pediatrics from the University of Ottawa in Canada, and pediatric endocrinology from the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. She is a member of the Endocrine Society and the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society. She is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology with the American Board of Pediatrics (FAAP) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCP(C)). Dr. Haqq holds a M.D. degree from the University of Calgary Medical School in Alberta, Canada, and a B.S. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.
