Ms. Hurley passed away on 12 December 2009 after a lengthy and inspirational battle with cancer. She served on the Board of Trustees for National Childhood Obesity Foundation, Inc. from its inception in 2003. She also served as an Administrative Program Specialist where she managed and coordinated administrative activities for the Foundation. Ms. Hurley was instrumental in securing for the Foundation's its first major donation from a private individual source. Besides serving with the Foundation, she worked for the Kellogg Foundation school based health center initiative through Massachusetts General Hospital as a Community Organizer in the City of Chelsea in Massachusetts. Earlier, she acquired over thirty years of professional counseling, teaching and administrative experience in the public school education system in the City of Chelsea. During that period, Ms. Hurley served as an Administrator of Special Education and as the Director of Human Services. She also held counseling positions as a School Psychologist and Crisis Intervention Counselor. Ms. Hurley was employed part-time with the Tri City Mental Health and Retardation Center in Everett, MA as a licensed addictions counselor where she evaluates clients for substance abuse programs. She earned a M. She will be dearly missed by all of us here at the Foundation not just as a beloved colleague, but as a trusted and dear friend.
